Bruno Donzelli (Naples 1941) 1962 was the year of the official debut of the artist, just twenty-one years old, on the national scene, a debut sanctioned by the staging of a solo show held at the Fiorino gallery in Florence. From this moment on, the artist's participation in prizes and exhibitions, both collective and personal, of national and international scope are innumerable and diverse. Donzelli's pictorial production is divided into pictorial cycles, among which, remember, "Ormare", "Impertinent Siparietti", "Mirror in the heart of Art", "New squares of Italy", "Morandina", "Sarmoniana" ”. Now, evident from the titles of some of his cycles, the close link with the Great History of Art of the 20th century, to which the artist, almost as a game, continually refers. Initially inspired by the language of Pop and Cobra, Donzelli, already at the end of the sixties, turned to a "fantastic" painting of expressionistic origin. The language is ironic, irreverent, the colors bright, very vivid. The figuration, bordering on comics, is playful, childish and fresh. In 1989 he created some works on ceramics, multiples and unique hand-painted pieces. There are several monographs that give an account of Bruno Donzelli's artistic career, from the historic one published by La scaletta di San Polo in 1986, to the more recent ones published in 1997 and 1998, published respectively by Mazzotta and the Georges Fall Gallery in Paris . The dawn of the new millennium is then the occasion for the presentation of a vast anthological exhibition in Caserta, where the artist resides, an exhibition which aims to retrace, with a critical eye, Donzelli's pictorial production. In 2008 the solo exhibitions overseas: Miami, New York and Shanghai.
