Ernesto Treccani (Milan 1920) At the age of eighteen he directed the magazine "Corrente", which his father, Senator Giovanni Treccani degli Alfieri, founder of the Treccani Institute for the publication of the encyclopedia of the same name, opened for him. While still a student at the faculty of engineering, he had the opportunity to meet and associate with painters and intellectuals of the artistic avant-garde and of breaking away from fascist culture. Ernesto Treccani, already sensitive to Picasso's neo-cubist painting, thus began an active search for an alternative language to the style of the Italian twentieth century, with the aim of recovering the naturalism of the Lombard tradition. Treccani's formative phase was influenced and guided by painter friends such as Birolli, Guttuso, Migneco, Sassu, Cassinari with whom he discussed art, painted and exhibited, for the first time, at the Bottega di Corrente in 1940. In his paintings the taste for fairy-tale narration and the observation of objective data emerges and takes shape, the painter lets himself be transported, maintaining apparent characteristics of reality, into the regions of the imagined, the imaginary and the fantastic.
