Gianni Amborgio Biography
Gianni Ambrogio was born in Treviso on 16 May 1928 to Calabrian parents. He revealed a strong predisposition for creativity at an early age and, at the age of seven, he painted his first oil painting. He attended the artistic high school in Venice without accessing the Academy, not sharing the teaching system implemented by the masters of the time who responded to the names of Guidi, Cesetti, Saetti and Cadorin, considering it excessively plagiaristic. For this reason he likes to define himself as "self-taught". He officially began his "curriculum" by participating in the first edition of the Taranto prize in 1949 and being the youngest exhibitor. From that moment on, art became his profession and he had to overcome moments of anguished difficulty, even of a practical nature, so he combined his artistic activity with work of all kinds, even the most humble. Later he had the opportunity to acquire the fresco technique by working for the superintendency of the monuments of Venice as a restorer. He then runs three art galleries in Treviso. Stays for short periods in Paris and Brittany. From 1970 to 1982 he held a studio in Milan to better capture the moods and cultural ferments of the big city. He usually lives in Carità di Villorba, where he has a studio a few kilometers from Treviso, a point of reference and stimulus for a notable group of artists, where he carries out his activity as a painter, sculptor and ceramist while maintaining frequent contact with the most important cultural centers national and international.
