Arman Fernandez (Nice, 1928 - New York, 2005). The years of his artistic training took place in Nice, at the Ecole des Arts Dècoratifs, where he met Yves Klein and at the Ecole du Louvre. During the 1950s his work was traditional art, until the following decade in which it underwent a decisive change. In the 1960s he joined the Nouveau Realism movement which based its poetics on reality and objects linked to everyday life. Arman usually chooses broken musical instruments as the subjects of his works. Worth remembering is the period of "accumulation", in which the artist created piles of objects linked to common use and the period in which he created bronze sculptures which reproduce the same subjects as his canvases.
