What is the true value of a work of art or a collector's item? 

The world of collecting is very varied and lends itself to interpretations that can influence the sales value of a work even quite substantially. This situation is due to the fact that each item has its own precise identity defined by the historical conditions and intrinsic quality, as well as the subjective opinion and culture of the buyer.

A precise valuation is therefore impossible, which is why valuers provide a minimum and maximum estimate. Basically, a price range is defined, within which – depending on the hypothetical conditional factors – the final market price should be. The closer you get to the maximum value, the less likely it is the item will sell.
