Ugo Caruso (Scicli 1926) lived the first years of his childhood in Libya for reasons linked to anti-fascism which interested his father. After attending art high school in Rome, he enrolled in the Faculty of Architecture where he studied for two years. His approach to painting also occurred thanks to the passion transmitted by his brother Ignazio who in turn was passionate about the work of Paul Cezanne. After an initial exhibition phase which took place at the end of the 1960s, Caruso distanced himself from economic constraints and market demands by dedicating himself to personal studies and teaching. Towards the end of the '60s the artist developed a new expressive period which would lead him to a new interpretation of urban space, an experimentation which also interested the nature-territory relationship. Caruso remained fascinated by the existential realism of the authors of ' 900 such as Guttuso, Picasso, and German Expressionism, finds its expressive identity in the representation of the "poor" elements of the environment that surround it.
