Giorgio Cigna Biography
Giorgio Cigna (1939 - 2005) was a painter, sculptor and engraver, trained at the Art School of the Albertina Academy in Turin and subsequently at the Brera Academy, where he studied fresco painting with Achille Funi, sculpture with Marino Marini and History of 'Art with Guido Ballo, graduating in 1963 with Gianfilippo Uselli. He began his engraving activity in 1958, preferring the use of etching and aquatint techniques. Throughout his career he has printed on his own and at the Il Graffo printing houses in Biella and Franco Sciardelli in Milan. He held his first personal exhibition in Rome in 1963, followed by others in: Biella, Novara, Lugano, Palermo, Sciacca, Genoa, Catania, Milan, Prato, Vercelli, Monza, Verona, Turin. Since 1959 he has participated in over two hundred national and international exhibitions including: Biella International Prize for Engraving from 1964 to 1999; Maximo Ramos Award, La Coruna, (Spain) from 1984 to 1987 and 1999; Fredrikstad Engraving Biennial (Norway) 1984; Campobasso Engraving Biennial 2000.
