Alessandro D'ambrosio Biography

Alessandro D'ambrosio is an Italian artist born in 1981. He currently lives and works between Latina and Rome, and his artistic vision aims to challenge traditional worldviews in his works. D'ambrosio believes that "imago mundi", a detached and independent vision of the world, dominates and invades the subject with its overwhelming volumes, perspectives and incessant molecular movements.
D'ambrosio's artistic philosophy is influenced by the Zero Group, an important artistic movement of the 1950s and 1960s, characterized by its anti-expressive attitude and reductionist, industrial approach to making art. Artists such as Piero Manzoni, Enrico Castellani, Dadamaino and Agostino Bonalumi are among his inspirations.
In his artistic practice, D'ambrosio has created “Scatole Metalliche“, a series of installations that are part of his project called “Resistant Objects”. The project started in 2002/2003 and developed in 2010 using 2D and 3D computer-aided design (CAD) and technologically advanced tools such as laser cutting and metal casting. The final products feature a hint of monochromatic paint back-installed and/or a light source inserted into the metal object. The "Resistant Objects" reflect D'ambrosio's interest in design and represent a departure from his pure pictorial activity.
Miriam Mirolla, art historian and critic, commented on the "Resistant Objects" series: "His 'Resistant Objects', as well as the installations in which he uses nails and monochromatic backgrounds, evoke the original challenge between Apelles and Diogenes, strengthening that mental line of art that poses challenge, riddle and Guinness, from the theory of the ready-made to active random art."
Overall, D'ambrosio's art reflects his curiosity, dedication, and passion for challenging traditional worldviews, pushing boundaries, and exploring new media and technology.
