Vandino Daolio (1920 - 2005), was known in art as «Van.D.», but in reality everyone knows him for having been the driver of the painter Antonio Ligabue. In Vandino Daolio's old-time house, everything speaks of "Toni", of whom he felt he was the only pupil. And it is certainly no coincidence that the most interesting works of this naive painter strongly echo the themes dear to Ligabue, in particular certain portraits of the mad painter which seem to have emerged the day before yesterday from the nervous brushstroke of the artist who loved animals and all in all he had never completely connected with men. After all, Vandino Daolio knows that Ligabue didn't just give him a job as a driver in the early sixties, but granted him, in a sort of legacy, a small slice of notoriety that helped him establish himself within the naive current often too crowded to really stand out.
