Laura Fiume Biography

Laura Fiume (Urbino 1953) Her training took place in Milan, first at the Art School and the Polytechnic School of Design, then in the Filanda di Canzo near Como, where she learned the techniques of silk-screen printing, ceramics and painting as a pupil of Father Salvatore River. In the field of ceramics, since 1983, it has focused first on the production of numbered objects only, and then on that of everyday objects for the home. His ceramics were exhibited for the first time at the "Work's II Gallery" in Southampton (NY), the gallery with which he collaborated from 1983 to 1988. From 1990 to 1992 his pictorial and graphic production was almost entirely absorbed by Japan. The exhibition on the theme of mirrors, at the Artesanterasmo Gallery in Milan in 1990, was the only occasion on which he exhibited with his father. Laura Fiume has collaborated with the same Gallery continuously since 1988. In 1992, on the initiative of the architect Pepe Tanzi, she collaborated in the launch of the new collection of chairs and tables by "Pozzi & Verga" by inserting in her paintings the images, reinterpreted by her, of some pieces from that collection. In 1995 she was chosen as designer of the year by the Swiss house Meyer Mayor, a leader in the production of household linen. From 1992 to 2000 he held a showroom in Milan where he brought together all his ceramic collections and his creations made and distributed by prestigious companies. In 1999 he added a new exhibition space, "Atelier Produzioni d'Arte", to his showroom, focusing his activity on ceramic and sculpture works by European and American authors. In 2002 the Japanese company Raika opened the first "Laura Fiume Show-Room" in Tokyo in the Mitsukoshi department store, dedicated to the clothing lines produced by the Japanese house. The exhibition "Altre Stanze: Hommage a Philippe Starck" was held in the Spazio Extè in Milan as part of the events outside the Salone del Mobile, in April 2003. On that occasion the companies Alessi, Driade and Flos collaborate by supplying Starck's furnishing elements to be exhibited together with the pictorial works of Laura Fiume. In 2003, as part of the Children's Festival in Sibenic, Croatia, he held a solo exhibition at the Svetog Krsevana gallery. In 2005 he contributed to the restyling of the Arenella hotel on the Isola del Giglio in Tuscany by providing a series of enlarged images of his works which constitute its characterizing element. Since 1997, the year of her father's death, she has been involved, in collaboration with her brother Luciano, her husband Paolo Ruocco and the Artesanterasmo Gallery in Milan, with the organization of exhibitions dedicated to Salvatore Fiume and the archiving of his works.
