Boris Georgiev Biography

Boris Georgiev was born in 1888 in Varna, Bulgaria. In 1902 his family moved to St. Petersburg in search of support. There Boris attended the drawing school. In the period 1909-1910 Georgiev studied at the Munich (Bavarian) Academy. In 1912 he visited Italy and enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. The story of Boris Georgiev is "the story of a solitary wanderer, who wanders from one country to another due to the internal need to find spiritual contact with fraternal souls and the need to draw directly from the book of life and nature." Boris Georgiev's art represents an original variant of symbolism. The color in his works is pastel, light and transparent as an expression of his elevated soul and his different sensitive adaptation. For his artistic merits in 1937 he received the sign of the Commander of the Order of the Italian Crown. In 1944 he moved to Bergamo and also participated in the Venice Biennale. In the period 1951-1955 he lived in Brazil where he painted incessantly and showed his works in Sao Paulo. Boris Georgiev did not stop painting and showing his art until his death in 1962. His last exhibition was in 1961 in Rome, at Palazzo Berberini. Boris Georgiev's art is only an expressive means to achieve his spiritual and artistic aspirations. This is why in the history of European art he remains a loner, misunderstood and underestimated. "I am alone, because I feel like I belong to the family of art."
