Gianluigi Giovanola Biography
Gian Luigi Giovanola, (Milan, 1923) is a painter and sculptor. He was initiated into art by his painter father Franco and his uncle Egidio Giovanola. After graduating from the Brera art high school, the artist taught drawing and art history in the technical institutes and high schools of the Lombardy capital. His first solo exhibition was in 1954 at the Galleria del Grattacielo in Legnano, then in Milan, Rome, Venice, Trento, Orvieto, Matera, New York, Belgrade, Düsseldorf. Giovanola was also invited to the Grafica Italiana overview in Romania. Since the 1950s he has illustrated with etchings, lithographs, linoleum, woodcuts and drawings, texts such as the Piccolo canzoneniere amoroso by Raffaele Carrieri (Electa 1957), Triale by Antonino Uccello (In the sign of the golden fish 1957), works by Ezra Pound , Libero De Libero, Leonardo Sinisgalli, Luciano Erba, Aglauco Casadio, Jorge Guillen and others. The artist is known for the artistic creation of horses of the most varied sizes and materials, some of the works related to this subject are collected in the catalog Ippogrami e Metaippogrammi di Giovanola edited by Luciano Erba, Milan, All'insegna del pesce d 'oro, 1957 and in Gian Luigi Giovanola: fourteen engravings on linoleum, edited by Raffaele Carrieri Milan, l'Editoriale Periodici Italiani, 1954.
