Haka Janusz Biography

Haka Janusz (1951 - ) was born in Bytom, Poland, in 1951, and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. In the general panorama of the artistic situation of the 80s and 90s, Haka occupies a very particular position. In his production his reference is to the American Pop Art of the 60s, which in turn lived on quotes taken from the contemporary language of the media. However, Haka overcomes the distance that pop artists place between themselves and the subjects they were referring to, and gives those same subjects a new life, made up of a chromatic force capable of giving them back a semblance of real and carnal life. Haka focuses at length on the form, in particular on that which par excellence embodies both beauty and vitality: the female body. A body that Haka never presents in a conformist way, but by resorting to very particular and ingenious cuts and shots, capturing it from unexpected and new angles. Haka therefore does not intend to propose a theoretical discourse on art: for him there is only the concreteness of artistic making, through which the reality of objects takes on a new meaning, without losing what is proper to it.
