Antonio Lani Biography
Sculptor and ceramist Antonio Lani, Paolo's twin brother, also a ceramist, was born in Lyon, France, in 1932. He learned the first rudiments of modeling from his foundry father. In 1940 the family moved to Pesaro and here, together with his brother, he attended the local School of Arts and Crafts, a student of Guido Andreani. In 1950, in collaboration with his brother, he took part in the Faenza International Ceramics Competition, obtaining first prize. In 1953 the two began to collaborate with the "Molaroni" ceramic factory and in the same year one of his plates, decorated with three figures of musicians in polychrome on a black enamelled background and decorated by the daughters of the owner of the factory Francesco, Gabriella and Magda Molaroni, was presented at the 11th National Ceramics Competition in Faenza, where it obtained the 2nd prize from the Ravenna Chamber of Commerce. He subsequently deepened his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and at the Magisterium of Florence where he obtained his teaching qualification. In 1955 he participated in the National Exhibition of Messina. In 1957 he moved to the "Franceschini" ceramic factory. In 1958 he moved to the Pesaro factory "Giardini". In 1961 he moved to Rimini where he worked at the "Stella Alpina" ceramic factory. In 1965 he held a solo show of drawings at the Piccola Galleria in Pesaro. In 1967, in addition to collaborating with the Pesaro ceramic factory "Baratti", he dedicated himself to chiselling and embossing on copper at the "Studio Laurana" and from 1972 he obtained the plastic chair at the Art Institute of Lecce.
