Malipiero Biography

Malipiero, pseudonym of Piero Maffessoli, is an Italian artist exponent of the Fluxus movement and supporter of Visual Poetry. Born in Brescia in 1934, in 1939 his family moved to Florence, where the artist grew up and still lives. After his studies, Malipiero began collaborating with the magazine "Numero" directed by Fiamma Vigo. In 1976 he founded the magazine "visual" in collaboration with Antonio Bueno. Malipiero has been a supporter and publisher of the artists of the Visual Poetry movement since its inception and of the Fluxus Movement. His works can be found in Chicago, Cairo, Paris and in numerous collections in Italy and abroad. His works are characterized by the evocative strength of an image, which is strengthened or distorted by the composition. The artist uses the obsessive repetition of a face to give it a symbolic meaning, suggesting the unstoppable flow of time. His works are stories sometimes full of color, sometimes made in black and white, but always characterized by a complex technique that gives rise to suggestive comparisons between different subjects.
