Mario Marcucci was born in Viareggio in 1910. He was self-taught, refractory to any insertion within the artistic currents of the first half of the twentieth century, who developed and maintained a very personal pictorial language, influenced above all by cultural exchanges with important personalities of Italian culture. His works were inspired by the landscape of Viareggio, his homeland, with its colors and atmospheres, which represented a constant point of reference for the artist. Through a careful modulation of lights and colours, he reproduced streets, squares, pine forests, marinas, city views, but also still lifes, investigating in these places all the possible variations of a tonal language and making his inner sensations shine through. The research coloristics is almost an obsession for Marcucci, which led him to conduct his artistic experiments using the most disparate materials as a support for his oil or watercolor production. For him, color is a means of capturing the forms of the reality he represents, strongly characterized by a very personal interpretation.
