Antonio Minezzi Biography
Antonio Minezzi was born in Modena in 1939. He dedicated himself to the restoration of ancient manuscripts, but his artistic career began only in 1975. In his work, he integrated fragments of ancient manuscripts, fabrics and documents, preserving them in his works of art . As a landscape painter, the artist focuses on the Tuscan countryside, the trees, the ex libris, the finds and the frontispieces of ancient books, even if sometimes these dissolve into poetic atmospheres.
Minezzi uses hand-woven hemp canvases for his works and uses natural pigments such as earth ocher and sienna to create his colors. His technique uses the overlapping of chalks, tempera and pencils to create a unique work. The artist incorporates signs of aging such as mold stains, tears, abrasions and color shadows into his painting, thus resulting in recognizable images.
Minezzi's painting techniques belong to ancient times, using colors prepared with earths, oxides and vegetables. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, but one of his most significant exhibitions was a series of works dedicated to Leopardi in 1989 at the National Center for Leopardi Studies. In this exhibition, Minezzi used worn papers and ancient poet codes to create his works of art.
