Ugo Nespolo (Mosso, 29 August 1941). He obtained a diploma from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts and later graduated in Modern Literature, showing great interest in semiology. He made his debut on the Italian artistic scene in the sixties with influences from Pop Art and with a close militancy with conceptualists and poor artists. His production was soon characterized by a strong transgressive, ironic accent and that apparent sense of fun, qualities that would lend themselves to the "cinematic canvas" and soon, in the seventies, also explored this means of expression. The eighties brought to fruition the most appreciated maturation of his American period, his paintings represent objects and clichés of American cities. He collaborates with Rai for which he creates video theme songs, collaborates in advertising creations, faithful to the dictate of the historical avant-gardes of "bringing art into life", the artist must occupy spaces of common life, leave the assigned, canonical spaces. Nespolo is also counted among the "masters of the Palio", for having painted the two sendalli for the Palio of Asti of that edition in 2000. The turn of the century marks a fundamental stage for the artist, long desired and sought after: the realization of the " his" atelier (created personally inside an abandoned factory in his Turin) which, like a precious casket, envelops and contains his creations, his "technological games", his dearest affections. It is to him that the organizers of the Giro d'Italia entrusted the creation of the pink jersey for the 2003 edition. Ugo Nespolo lives and works in Turin.
