Albano Poli Biography

Childhood: Albano Poli was born in Verona on 2 August 1935 and was a child when Italy was also experiencing the drama of the Second World War. Thus he grows up amidst the difficulties and deprivations of the post-war period, among his most vivid and difficult to forget memories re-emerges that of the difficulty of obtaining a simple apple for a snack and the strength necessary to make space among the other kids to achieve that simple goal, strength and will of soul that will be within you forever. Adolescence: Like many boys of his age, he began working at a very young age, always combative and with a fervor that still does not abandon him today, especially in the professional field: from Verona he travels around Veneto and then Italy, on two and four wheels, arriving as far as Naples where we find one of his first important works. It is precisely by traveling that he learns to love the art and beauty that our country is rich in, in the landscapes that fill his gaze, in the churches where he compares himself with the masters of the past, but also in the houses and convents where he is hosted. Pino Casarini's school: The passion for artistic stained glass windows was born by working in contact with a great contemporary artist, Pino Casarini, attending the Napoleone Nani art school directed by him. And it is precisely after his advice that he decides to open a small artistic glass factory in the center of Verona, which over time will become the great reality that it is today, not without the sacrifices and fighting spirit that have distinguished him since he was young. Naples, Monastery of Santa Chiara: In Naples at the Monastery of Santa Chiara we find one of his most symbolic works: the artistic stained glass windows created for the Church of the monastic complex partially destroyed by the bombing of '43. Ten years later Poli created the artistic stained glass windows based on Casarini's design, three of which depict Santa Chiara, the destruction and reconstruction of the church. This is a work that remained in the heart of Maestro Albano Poli until it led him to create the new stained glass windows of the presbytery in his artistic style in 2003 and the remaining ones in 2013 to complete what is certainly a unique artistic cycle of its kind, developed over a lifetime. POLIARTE: At the beginning of the 1960s the turning point took place: Albano Poli created the POLIARTE brand and reinvented interior lighting. His artistic lamps are true works of art that dress light with the use of glass, wrought iron and cast iron. They are lamps that made the history of Italian design in the 60s and 70s as evidenced by the prizes and recognitions obtained in those years: in 1968 he received the award from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Crafts for the works lent to the Decorative Arts Section of the 34th International Art Biennale of Venice while in 1970 the first prize in the progress sector for the competition "Tradition, adaptation and progress of the artisan product". However, Albano Poli did not abandon the sector of artistic stained glass both nationally and internationally and in 1970 he received a gold medal in recognition for the stained glass windows created for the Munich International Crafts Fair from the German Prime Minister. In the 80s Poliarte and its founder created artistic stained glass windows for numerous churches and in collaboration with established artists, artists who relied on the experience of the Veronese master to create their works, aware of the very high quality of the materials and the artistic sensitivity that characterized and still characterizes the laboratory today. POLI ARTE PROJECT: At the end of the 80s Poliarte began its transformation into the artistic atelier we know. The headquarters, which was initially located in the beautiful Orti Manara palace in Verona, moved to a place more suitable for the creation of large windows, an artistic laboratory of over 4,000 m2 in which to preserve a collection, to date, of over 10,000 m2 of slabs of mouth-blown glass that he uses to create his creations. The laboratory is equipped with the most modern technologies to be self-sufficient in the creation of cutting-edge windows from the point of view of thermal insulation and soundproofing, also starting to create the frames that will contain them. The company grows over the years and Maestro Poli continues to explore other artistic techniques, from mosaic to sculpture, from bronze to marble: thus, at the end of the 1990s, Progetto Arte Poli was born, an atelier that takes up the philosophy of Renaissance workshop, where numerous artists and craftsmen collaborate under the supervision and guidance of the Master. The most important projects: Progetto Arte Poli and its Artist thus stand out both in the panorama of Sacred Art and in that of furnishing accessories, in Italy and abroad; among the latest international recognitions we remember the Faith and Form Award 2011 for the artistic stained glass windows for the baptismal font area of the Basilica of San Paolo Fuori le Mura and the Faith and Form 2014 for the new monumental candelabra for the Cathedral of Bari. Among the most well-known interventions are also the creation of an artistic skylight in the apartments of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican; the apse windows of the Basilica of San Zeno in Verona; the artistic stained glass windows of the Castanhal Cathedral in Brazil; the mosaics depicting Saint John Paul II and Saint Teresa of Calcutta at the Santa Maria delle Grazie Sanctuary in San Giovanni Rotondo; the last new artistic stained glass window installed at the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence; the restoration of the stained glass windows of the Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna; the creation of stained glass windows and panel paintings for the Xitang church in Beijing; artistic mosaic for the reliquary where the relic of Saint John Paul II is kept at the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Warsaw; the restoration of the roller windows of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua; the creation of the contemporary artistic stained glass windows of the Madonna delle Lacrime Sanctuary in Syracuse; the creation of artistic works for the chapel dedicated to the Madonna of Loreto at the John Paul II Sanctuary in Krakow; the artistic side portals of the Third Millennium Cross Sanctuary in Coquimbo in Chile and the restoration of the lateral rose window of the Basilica of St. Anthony of Padua as well as numerous hotels, restaurants, public and private environments throughout the world.
