Born in Bergamo, he moved to Milan with his family in 1932. He was introduced to painting by the Bergamo painter Giulio Vito Musitelli and frequented the painter Agazzi's studio in Milan. In 1939 he founded the "La Rotonda" group, organizing collective exhibitions in Milan and Genoa, which included some of the most significant Lombard artists of the period. In 1945, he gave life to the "Black Cat" group, whose initiatives for a decade gave new directions and new ways of proposing culture to public opinion on Milanese and Italian artistic life. His participations in the most important Italian and foreign artistic events are numerous.
