Basso Ragni Biography
Basso Ragni (Termoli, 16 February 1921 – Livorno, 7 February 1979) was an Italian painter. Born in Termoli (Campobasso), from a young age he followed artistic paths by attending a drawing school directed by Prof. Orlandi. At the age of majority he enlisted in the navy and during the war, although it caused tragedies, anguish and pain, he remained fascinated by lands and colors far from his horizons. Indeed, during an internment in Spain, he took part in an impromptu collective performance in Barcelona and deserved 2nd prize. Subsequently, while the end of the war is being celebrated in Italy, his ship, the destroyer "Carabiniere", sets sail for the Indies and on that occasion too, and more precisely on the island of Ceylon now Sri Lanka, he draws profound impressions from simple life of the population and the colors of nature. At the end of the war, after taking leave, he settled in Livorno where during the conflict he had been for a long stay due to the repair of the ship seriously damaged due to war episodes. In this city he meets a girl who will become his inseparable companion for life.
