Rainer Arnulf (Baden, 1929) Arnulf Rainer was an Austrian painter, engraver and photographer, who was mainly self-taught. He became a central figure of 20th-century Austrian art. Initially he was influenced by surrealism, then by American abstract expressionism and French informalism. He was Austria's representative at the 1978 Venice Biennale and received several awards. In 1993 a museum dedicated to him was opened in New York.
