Attilio Rossi (Albairate, 1909- Milan, 1994). During his career he became acquainted with abstract art, hyperrealism, and then developed a very experimental and metaphysical style in the last period of his career. Among his works, the Via Crucis deserves particular mention, in which a strong formal research emerges. Some of his works can be found at the Museum of Modern Art of New York. He has held numerous exhibitions both in Italy and abroad, taking part in the Venice Biennale (1948,1962) and the Rome Quadrennial. He has received several awards including the gold medal for culture and art from the Municipality of Milan in 1974. He also distinguished himself in the field of graphics, founding the magazine Campo Grafico and opening this sector to the influence of the Bauhaus and contemporary art, such as that of Picasso, Mondrian and Kandinsky. In the 1950s he directed the magazine Lineagrafica. His artistic production has been the subject of interest of many critics and art scholars. He has set up numerous art exhibitions in the Royal Palace of Milan and at the Permanente. In 1953 he obtained the loan of Guernica from Pablo Picasso for the exhibition dedicated to Picasso himself in Milan. During his stay in Argentina (1935-1950), the artist established a profound relationship with Hispanic and Latin American culture. Equally important are its links with South American culture. During his career he illustrated numerous books.
