Giuseppe Scaiola Biography

Giuseppe Scaiola was born in a small village in the province of Savona in 1951. Having completed his artistic studies at just twenty-one years of age, in 1972 he taught Plastic Disciplines in the same “A. Martini” and at the same time he enrolled at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, from which he graduated in 1975. His exhibition activity began with participation in the Roman Quadrennial in 1975; From the beginning of his career, the patronage of the Castagneto family greatly helped him in his artistic journey. In '79, Scaiola was in Milan with a new solo show at the Galleria Annunciata with presentation in the catalog by Gillo Dorfles. In 1980 he worked for a short period in Paris, where he completed the cycle of nuns' paintings. From that moment, Giuseppe began to reside permanently in the Lombard capital where he assiduously frequented the great sculptor Agenore Fabbri, whom he met in Albissola, and who would always remain a dearest friendship. In 1984, the figurative element practically disappeared from his paintings; A radical renewal was exhibited in 1986 at the Artra Gallery in Milan. The event of that exhibition is remembered for the purchase of all the works by the collector Salvatore Manzoni, with whom Scaiola formed a friendship that continues to this day with a bond of mutual esteem. Agenore Fabbri introduces Scaiola to the German collector Volker W. Feierabend who immediately takes an interest in his work. From this friendship comes a strong attention from the German collecting and museum world which is highlighted in a vast program of exhibitions. At the same time, the Klaus Braun Gallery in Stuttgart disseminates his work and this collaboration continues today. The interest becomes more lively and extends to various artistic circles of the Federal Republic. His works were acquired by important museums in Cologne, Stuttgart and Bonn, whose director. In 2002, the CIMAC – Civic Museum of Contemporary Art of Milan acquired a painting entitled “Terra d'oro”. The painting is present in the exhibition entitled “BEAUTIFUL PAINTING”, presented at the New Museum in Weimar. His intense activity continues with a cycle of personal exhibitions in German museums and Italian public spaces and collaborations with important galleries, in Milan and abroad.
