Guide to Mario Schifano price quotations

Mario Schifano is undoubtedly the most important Italian artist of the post-war period together with Lucio Fontana.

Despite having already recorded an award above 2,000,000 euros, his prices are still low compared to his Lombard colleague who is 35 years older. Schifano's use of silkscreens, stencils and spray paint gives his work a graphic and industrial appearance in line with the Zeitgeist of the time and the culture that would later be defined as pop.

In the 80s and 90s, Schifano's style was characterized by a more unscrupulous use of color and the introduction of innovative techniques such as computerized canvas.

Paintings from the 1960s remain the most sought after and valuable by collectors. The medium and large sizes and the most iconic subjects are sold for between 200,000 and 2,000,000 euros.

Works from subsequent years can be sold for between 10,000 and 100,000 euros

He will participate in many personal and collective exhibitions in public and private spaces in Italy. In the 1960s he undertook a trip to America, thanks to which he approached the artistic influences of Pop Art and subsequently developed an interest in the reproduction of images, music, advertising, photography, together with that for cinema, which will make him a great European artist with a strong sense of contemporaneity. In the 1980s he applied his works to art subjects, using photographs of important figures such as De Chirico, Matisse, Leonardo da Vinci. Later Schifano will return to his own tools and the gestures of painting and drawing. He has been present in numerous exhibitions both in Italy and abroad and in 1997 he won the San Giorgio di Donatello Award, thanks to the creation of the polychrome windows in the crypt of Santa Croce in Florence.
