Giuseppe Scognamiglio was born in Portici in March 1901. He began to paint at a very young age, following in the footsteps of the last exponents of the Resin School, also known as the Republic of Portici, founded in 1863. He quickly became one of the most talented exponents of Neapolitan impressionism of the early twentieth century. A painter with «... lively brushwork and a great sense of colour», he was the author of landscapes, interpreted «... with sincerity and immediacy». His landscapes «rest in the calm and sweetness of a sentimental emotion that derives from the daily relationship with nature and environmental reality». Equally stupendous are his still lifes, created with "precise drawing, calibrated tones, measured perspectives, captured by an attentive eye and traced by a sure hand". Among his works, some were dedicated to Portici. Among these we mention: Il Granatello and Villa Comunale. The artist Giuseppe Scognamiglio died in Naples in 1985.
