Sandro Somare' Biography
Sandro Somarè was born in Milan in 1929. Self-taught, he began painting in Rome in 1954 after making his debut as an actor in the films of Alberto Lattuada and Gigi Malerba. His first personal exhibition, presented by Emilio Tadini, took place in 1957 at the Selecta gallery of Rome, directed by Carlo Cardazzo and Vittorio Del Gaizo. Three years later, in 1960 he exhibited at the Ariete gallery in Milan. Then, in 1964, again in Milan he exhibited and founded the Galleria Milano together with Aldo Bergollo, Gianni Dova, Mario Rossello and his brother Guido Somarè. In 1964 he participated in the triennial in Milan and in 1965 he was among the five painters from Michaud in the historic gallery of Florence and at the Galleria del Cavallino in Venice. In 1971 he held solo exhibitions at Transart in Milan, Lanterna in Trieste and in 1974 at the Il Naviglio gallery in Milan . Between 1967 and 1974 he also exhibited at the La Minima gallery in Turin, at the Rosmini center in Trento, at the La Lanterna gallery in Trieste and at the Il Naviglio gallery in Milan. But it is abroad that his activity has greatest expansion and in particular at the historic Galerie du Dragon, directed by Max Clarac, where he exhibits regularly in 1973,1983,1985,1990,1992,1994 and 1995. In those years he also exhibited at the Maison del la Culture in Rennes and Amien, Galerie de la difference in Brussels, and was presented at the FIAC in Paris by the Gianferrari gallery in Milan. In May 2006 he finally received the great recognition of his city, Milan, which dedicated to him, together with his brother Guido, a large anthological exhibition at the Rotonda della Besana.
