Victor Vasarely Biography

Victor Vasarely was born in Pecs (Hungary). He began his first medical studies, after which he gave up to devote himself to fine arts (1927-1929), then at the Bauhaus in Budapest, where he was a student of Sandor Bortnyik. His first solo exhibition was held in Budapest in 1930, the year he settled in Paris.
In the first phase, the artist created a plastic alphabet whose infinite combinations determined the birth of "brain and methodical art". He will gradually abandon applied art and move towards the creation of abstract painting. Between 1935 and 1947 Vasarely expressed himself through more classical representations and by painting portraits, still lifes and landscapes. He then continued with a series of works in Belle-Isle-en-Mer, where the artist intended to show natural internal geometries. In 1955 he wrote The Yellow Manifesto, in which kinetic art was defined. His compositions become increasingly complex, with geometric elements that combine, combine, arrange, combine to get closer to the cellular structure.
In 1965 Victor Vasarely participated in the exhibition "Responsive Eye" (New York) which would elevate Op Art. The artist is interested in physics, architecture, industry and wants his language to be universal. He created his foundation in Aix-en-Provence in 1976, conceived the entire building, thus concretizing his concept of urban art. Vasarely established a contemporary art center and a conference and research laboratory for artists, architects and engineers. Everyone appropriates their art, it will be celebrated in the largest museum on earth.
Victor Vasarely died in Annet-sur-Marne (France) in 1997.
