Gunther von Hagens, born Gunther Gerhard Liebchen (Neu Skalden, 10 January 1945), is a German pathologist, inventor of plastination, a procedure that allows the conservation of human bodies through the replacement of liquids with silicone polymers. This technique makes the organic finds rigid and odorless, keeping the colors unchanged. Von Hagens is the author of the exhibitions entitled Körperwelten (in English Body Worlds), in which he exhibits the human bodies he created in poses that recall famous works of art.
