Joseph Watchman Kaliher Biography
Joseph Watchman Kaliher was born in 1973 in a hippie community near Dallas. At the age of two, his mother took him with her to Italy, where he spent his childhood and adolescence. Later, he also lived in England. Kaliher received private lessons in the classical art tradition at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. Through his painting, characterized by vast, full, mellow and material chromatic fields, as well as fairy-tale, spectacular characters, almost actors on a set, Kaliher becomes the spokesperson for a lyrical and philosophical art, which expresses all his curiosity, surprise and sensitivity for the human soul, as well as pity for its vices and weaknesses. His paintings, which feature vibrant colors and a feeling of joy, are characterized by a reaching towards the sky, represented by recurring symbols, such as stairs and hot air balloons, which symbolize the climb upwards, as well as bright rainbows, which mark the bridge between earth and sky.
