Ylla (Camilla Koffler) was the pioneer of twentieth-century animal photography, particularly of wild animals in Africa and India. His photographs and books published in Paris, London and New York have enjoyed great success and have been translated into many languages. Her adventures were also told in the two comics Histoire vivante, (in «Bonnes Soirées» of 03/24/1957, n.1832) and Ylla, Notre Histoire Complète (in «Line, le journal des chics filles» of 23/ 05/1957, n. 115) and inspired the film by director and producer Howard Hawks, Hatari! (1962), starring John Wayne, where the character of Anna Maria “Dallas” D'Alessandro is a photographer who works for a zoo (played by actress Elsa Martinelli). Jean Painlevé's film Les pigeons du square (1982) also pays homage to his memory.
