Auction 485 | DESIGN AND XX CENTURY DECORATIVE ARTS Traditional
Lot 2
Designed from 1903, produced since 1904/1905, in the catalog since 1906.
Armchairs among the first made.
Paper label "PIAZZA & MANN - TRIESTE", official dealer of J&J Kohn in Trieste.
This model, particularly rare in the version with the original plywood seat, is historically important as for the first time two elements are associated: (a) the horseshoe connection under the legs, which is however separated from the floor by the addition of disks covered with a metal ring (b) the motif of the spheres under the seat, with a decorative and stabilizing function of the seat.
The elements that allow us to date the armchairs presented here among the first examples made are: (a) the disks under the base covered with a metal ring (later they will be made of wood); (b) the spherical spheres (later they will be sectioned parallel to the support surface and hollowed out inside to hide the lower screws fixing them to the seat).
