Claudio Abate Biography
CLAUDIO ABATE (Rome, 1943-2017) He was among the greatest photographers of the twentieth century. Since his youth he has lived in close contact with the major artists on the Italian and international scene, such as Kounellis, Merz, Pascali, Penone, Abramovic and Paolini. Memorable are the shots of complex performances, of which he manages to capture the different and specific moments, evidence that otherwise could not have been documented and would have now disappeared without a trace. This privileged dialogue with the work of art continues interrupted and unchanged over the years, even with the adoption, starting from the 1980s, of color and later of digital. Alongside his photographs, in which he immortalizes the very close relationship between the artist, the photographer and the work of art, Claudio Abate also began, in the 1970s, to experiment with his own projects for which he used different photographic techniques, such as direct contact on the sensitive surface.
