Gianantonio Abate was born in Como in 1955. He began showing his works in 1983 with a solo exhibition at the Diagram Gallery in Milan. On that occasion he presented a series of works entitled "Pittographies" which translate a sort of environmental energy, dynamic and swirling structures onto curved wooden supports, echoing the historical lesson of Futurism. Since 1984, Abate's work has been configured in a poetry inspired by the urban, artificial, mass-media world. The artist began to use plastic, producing environmental products that investigate the relationship between the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional, with a very lucid and reflective mentality, in opposition to the then prevailing fashion of neo-expressionist painting.
