Carl Joseph Aloys Agricola (Bad Säckingen, Baden, 1779 – Vienna, 1852)
was an Austro-German artist. After graduating from Karlsruhe, he moved to Vienna in 1798 and began attending the Academy, under the guidance of Füger, who would later become his teacher. He soon distinguished himself for the production of mythological oil and watercolor paintings - among which the work "Cupid and Psyche" stands out - as well as for his engravings and lithographs. His notoriety, however, was above all due to the creation of a series of miniature portraits.
His painting, done in late eighteenth-century style, is largely inspired by that of his teacher Füger. After a brilliant and prosperous artistic career, Agricola died in Vienna in 1852.
