Born in Paris in 1928. Gilles Aillaud is one of the most important contemporary French painters. He is a painter, writer and works for the theater both as an author of texts and as a creator of sets and costumes for texts by Chekhov, Brecht, Shakespeare, etc. He wrote a text on Vermeer, Seeing without being seen, for Hazan editions in 1985. After his debut in Rome in 1950 with a solo show at the L'Obelisco gallery, he exhibited in the main European countries, in the United States and in China, and he participated in the Venice biennial in 1976. He died in Paris in March 2005.
