Giovanni Albanese Biography

Giovanni Albanese is an artist and director born in Bari in 1955 and resident in Rome.
He graduated in Architecture from the Polytechnic of Turin and currently holds the Chair of Decoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. In 2018 he published the book 'The army of the homeless' written together with Ascanio Celestini and published by ed. Contrast. In 2011 he presented the work "Costellazione" at the 54th Venice Biennale at Palazzo Bianchi Michiel together with the Pino Pascali Foundation. In the same year, he presented the installation "7 large baskets" in the red zone of the historic center of L'Aquila. In the period December/February 2009/2010, he created the installation "Luci d'Artista" in the historic center of Spoleto. In May 2011 his film "Senza arte nei parte" was presented, produced by Lumiere&C and Rai Cinema and distributed by 01. In June/July 2009 he exhibited at the Chelsea Art Museum in New York. In 2008, he was a finalist and winner of the Acquisto Prize at the Terna 01 Prize for Contemporary Art. In 2003, his feature film "AAAAchille" was presented, with which he won the Giffoni Film Festival.
In 1996, he was invited to the XII National Art Quadrennial in Rome. Furthermore, this artist has won some major awards. In 1995, he won the Award for Best Foreign Opera at the "1st International Biennal of Kamnik", Slovenia with "Quicksand". In 2002, he was awarded the "Pino Pascali Prize for Contemporary Art".
