Francesco Albotto was born in Venice on an uncertain date.
Eighteenth-century landscape painter.
He was a pupil of Michele Marieschi and upon the latter's death (1743) he married his widow, Angela Fontana, also taking over the master's workshop where he continued to produce works in style.
His favorite subjects are Venice, with its canals and its characteristic architecture.
Contrary to his predilection for fantasy and his casual brushwork, Francesco Albotto's main source of inspiration is linked to models already created by other artists, such as Marieschi and Canaletto.
The style and deep friendship that linked Albotto to Marieschi often make it difficult to distinguish the works of one from the other.
He died in Venice on 13 January 1757.
