Pierre Alechinsky (Brussels, 1927). In 1944 he attended the Ecole nationale supèrieure d'Architecture et des Arts dècoratifs de La Campre in Brussels, where he specialized in illustration, printing and photography techniques. In 1948 he founded the CO.BR.A group together with Karel Appel, Asger Jorn and Corneille. Together they deal with semi-abstract painting, created with brilliant ceomatisms and distorted human figures inspired by primitive art and the grotesque-fantastic elements of Northern European art. In 1951 he moved to Paris where he studied engraving and printing techniques. In 1983 he taught painting at the Ecole nationale supèrieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He currently lives in France, in Bougival where he creates prints and illustrations for books.
