Alessandro Algardi (Bologna, 1598 - Rome, 1654). He trained at the Carracci Academy in Bologna, initially a goldsmith in Mantua, at the Gonzaga court and subsequently a sculptor. In Mantua he worked from 1612 to 1626, then moved to Rome where, on behalf of Cardinal Ludovisi, he dedicated himself to the restoration of important ancient statues. Algardi created works in bronze and Carrara marble. In addition to being a sculptor, he was also a painter of the Bolognese school, known for the composure of his paintings.
