The Allemandi publishing company was founded in 1982 by Umberto Allemandi with the aim of producing high-quality periodicals and specialist books in the field of figurative and decorative arts. The company's first initiative was the creation of the monthly "Il Giornale dell'Arte", which marked an important innovation in the art publishing sector thanks to its newspaper-like format. In 1990, the company "Umberto Allemandi & Co. Publishing Ltd" was founded in London to manage foreign editions of editorial products. From 2002 to 2014, Allemandi published the monthly "Il Giornale dell'Architettura", a further initiative in the field of specialized information which covered the sectors of architecture, construction, design, urban planning and 'environment. At the end of 2015, Umberto Allemandi & CSpA was transformed into Umberto Allemandi srl. The company has published catalogs for numerous prestigious museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the Galleria National Museum of Modern Art in Rome and the Vatican Museums. In 1992, the publisher received the "National Award for Culture" for publishing from the Prime Minister Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, who later became President of the Italian Republic, an important recognition for the activity carried out by the company.
