Ernst Anders was a German painter born on March 26, 1845 in Magdeburg.
Most of his works are genre scenes, but for a living he mostly took portraits, many of them of his fellow artists.
He began his artistic training as a private pupil of Andreas Müller and subsequently, in 1863, enrolled at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, where he studied with Rudolf Wiegmann, Heinrich Mücke, Karl Ferdinand Sohn and Julius Roeting.
