Lindsay Anderson Biography
Lindsay Anderson (1947 - ) is an artist, born in Edgbaston, Birmingham, who attended Sutton Coldfield School of Art between 1963 and 1965, then gained an honors degree in sculpture at Leeds College of Art (1965–68 ). After a dozen years, Anderson returned to work as an artist in 1980, starting with drawings and etchings, then in 1988 she began sculpting and painting simple boxes, which became more narrative and evolved into the panels for which she became famous. These were made of lime wood, painted, and for her they were “a kind of drawing with chisels”. They expressed a semi-autobiographical narrative, involving mysterious dreaming women, standing winged guardian seraphim and strange, serene faces. Among the various group exhibitions in which he participated, that at the Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh, 1990; at the Woodcarver's Art, Crafts Council Tour and Christmas Show, Ruskin Gallery in Sheffield, both 1993; and at the Hove Museum and Art Gallery, in 1995.
