Moacir Andrade (1927 - 2016) is a Brazilian contemporary visual artist, born in 1927 and was largely inspired creatively by the 1930s. The period of the 1930s was exemplified by the clash of a number of political ideologies, including Marxist socialism, capitalist democracy, and the totalitarianism of both communism and fascism. Surrealism continued to dominate in Europe and had influence throughout the world. Artists such as Frida Kahlo and Diego Riviera in Mexico worked to integrate the ideas posed by Surrealism into their revolutionary political philosophies, developing a new type of magical realism. Andrade Started painting as a self-taught artist. Around 1942, he studied drawing at the Escola Técnica de Manaus. He then graduated in Museology at the National Historical Museum, in Rio de Janeiro. Around 1954 he joined the Clube da Madrugada, born in the city of Manaus.
