Christof Angermair was born in Weilheim in Bavaria around 1580 and died in 1632 in Munich. Renowned sculptor, he specializes in ivory work.
The son of a goldsmith, Angermair moved to Monaco when he was still very young and became a court turner from 1618 to 1631, creating ivory works for Princess Elizabeth of Lorraine.
For the court of Maximilian I, Angermair created large chests and pieces of furniture entirely in ivory.
Among his most important works are a bas-relief of the Holy Family dated 1632, a Madonna surrounded by saints and several works preserved today in the Brunswick museum.
However, the most famous of his works is perhaps the coin chest, in ivory and lapis lazuli, adorned with reliefs, made between 1618 and 1624, probably based on a design by Peter the Candid
