Arcangelo Esposito, known simply as Arcangelo, was born in Avellino in 1956.
Arcangelo's works are linked to the sense of belonging, therefore to the land, but not exclusively in reference to southern Italy, but rather to the idea of "possible lands".
In 1976 he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where he graduated in 1980, where he attended graphics and sculpture courses with Emilio. In 1981 he moved permanently to Milan. In the 1980s the first cycle of works entitled “Terra mia” was born, with which he participated in the collective “Perspective” on the occasion of Art Basel. This was followed by solo exhibitions at the Tanit galleries in Munich, Buchmann in Basel, Janine Mautsch in Cologne, Harald Behm in Hamburg and Klaus Lüpke in Frankfurt, and the collective exhibition “Nuovi Argomenti” at the PAC in Milan. He began working on the sculptures entitled “Holy Mountains”. New solo shows: “Villa Waldberta”, Galerie Tanit in Munich, as a guest of the City; Engström Gallery in Stockholm; Galerie Pierre Huber in Geneva. In 1987 he exhibited at the PAC in Milan and at the Museum der Stadt in Esslingen. Towards the end of the 1980s the "Altars" were born and between 1989 and 1990 the "Planets" cycle began. In 1990 he took a trip to Africa with Giuseppe Spagnulo, Pietro Coletta and Antonio Paradiso. In 1992 he exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Toulouse, in the Réfectoir des Jacobins. Between 1993 and 1994 he exhibited in Japan, at the Fukuyama Museum of Art. In the 2000s he worked on the cycle of "Persian Carpets", the "Samnites" and the "Vedenti".
Today he lives and works in Milan and teaches painting at the Brera Academy.
