Georg Arnold-graboné Biography

George Arnold-Graboné (1896-1982) was a German impressionist artist.
Arnold-Graboné became well known for his unique style of palette knife painting which gave his works remarkable color brilliance. His favorite subjects were the Bavarian and South Tyrolean Alps, the island of Capri, the English Garden in Munich, the lake region around Starnberg and fishing boats on the North Sea.
He studied at the Munich Academy of Art. Under the guidance of Professor Lippert of Vienna, he approached Cubism. He joined the “Licth-Gruppe” group of artists.
He will later abandon experimental forms to return to a more traditional style. In fact, he studied landscape painting under the guidance of Heinrich von Zügel and Leo von König and in Berlin he refined his style with the impressionist painter Max Liebermann.
He taught painting to American General Eisenhower and English Prime Minister Winston Churchill. With the latter he spent several summer weeks in the early 1950s painting on the Isle of Man.
