The Basque costumbrista painter, although of French nationality, was born in Bilbao in 1875 and died there in 1932.
In the 20th century he worked in Paris and painted typical characters of Basque folklore. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Indépendants from 1910 to 1935, presenting, among others, the following canvases: “Mousquetaire”; “Mousquetaire à la pipe”; “Groupe de trois têtes”.
Some of his most famous works are “Les Buveurs”, “L'Homme au manteau rouge”, “Les Trois fumeurs”, “Portraits d'hommes”, “Vieux Basque à la cigarette” and “Portrait du gentilhomme du XVII siecle” .
