Paolo Artini Biography
Paolo Artini was born in 1929. Compared to other artists who affirmed their pictorial style, it seems that Artini is not part of this group of retired adventurers, because, if he too has pursued his own virtual hieroglyph over the years, he has not did he ever decide that he had found it, and made it his own. Although she is not an experimental artist in the sense of the informal, or kinetic, or optical painters of our time, she remains, if one knows how to see beyond appearances, an irreducible experimenter, guest of a perpetual laboratory of art. If it is true that many of his paintings, consider his portraits of women, seem to echo one another for a long time, it is necessary to pay more attention, because the evidence in his case is misleading. Each portrait refers to some completely new stylistic vicissitudes, which are congenial to it, or to dangerous citations, as when it alludes to Modigliani, necks aside, in the slightly anamorphic oval of the faces, or when it seems to recall Campigli, with a which has an archaic flavor, and I would like to say Etruscan. However, they are always visual baits, I would like to call them that, which are nipped in the bud, displaced by a completely personal expressiveness, by a pictorial project that is suspended between geometry and candour. The artist passes very nonchalantly, from canvas to stone, from stone to the metal of the cups, monstrances of dreams, from the figurative approach, in which he holds the mirror to nature, to a series of tormented material collages. It is a testimony in the works of his restlessness as an artist, of his seeking and searching for himself, which I have already underlined as his peculiar lifestyle, which perpetually translates into art. It is also true, however, that even Paolo Artini, a sleepless seeker of beauty treasures, has discovered within himself an archetype, which accompanies him, a helping angel, always wonderfully congruent, through the years. I want to call into question his dove, a mirage of light, a white ghost that appears, disappears and reappears again, fresh from a mythical flood, to bring with it his message of tenderness and peace.
