Adone Asinari Biography

Adone Asinari (Pomponesco, 12 May 1910 – Milan, 13 June 1984) was an Italian painter, Franco's older brother. At a very young age, he moved to Milan where he attended the Humanitarian Art Schools and the Higher School of Art Applied to Industry of the Castello Sforzesco. In 1927 he joined Futurism after a meeting with Marinetti, and the following year he was among the participants in the National Futurist Exhibition at the Pesaro Gallery in Milan; of futurism he became a representative of particular originality. He dedicated himself to the themes of plastic dynamism and related experiments, which he developed in increasingly autonomous ways, with particular research on the image and its perception. Around the mid-1930s he became interested in constructivist language. He maintained relationships with personalities such as Franco Grignani, Bruno Munari and Enrico Prampolini. In 1942 he was called up to arms, was taken prisoner in Sicily and sent to a concentration camp in Tunisia. After the war he deepened his research in the field of Constructivism. In 1952 he was with Munari in the "Beyond Painting" initiative. Alongside painting he also worked as a teacher: in the 1960s he taught at the Art School of the Castello Sforzesco and in the 1970s he taught graphics at the "Paolo Toschi" Art Institute in Parma. In 1980 he participated in the Milanese exhibition Arte Struktura, curated by Carlo Belloli. In 1981 a large anthological exhibition was set up for him in the Villa Cusani Tittoni Traversi in Desio.
